The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is pleased to announce a partnership with the Green Bay Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) to designate the NEW Zoo as a drop-off site for recycling plastic bags and plastic film! The site will be available for community members to bring approved items starting May 1st. Most local recycling programs do not allow these items to be recycled in curbside pick-up, so this will be a great way for area residents to make a difference.

- Jan. 8, 2018 - Phishing WARNING:

Reminder: Don't click on links in emails.
Several people in Brown County have received a "View Document" email like the one below - this is a common phishing scam. Do not click on links in emails! Emails like this are designed to get your account information, contact list and infect your system.

This is a snapshot of today's latest phishing attempt:

If you clicked already
1) reset your Google password ASAP (and change your County password also)
2) enable Google two step authentication if you haven't already
3) scan your PC / device for malware (if it's at work, contact the Help Desk 448-4030 and DoTS will scan your PC).

- Jan. 5, 2018 - Department of Technology Services - Cyber Security Alert

Department of Technology Services -
Cyber Security Alert:

On January 3rd and 4th, it was widely reported that a security vulnerability was discovered in Intel CPUs. This means many computers and mobile devices are susceptible to exposing sensitive data (passwords, photos, emails and other personal data). The vulnerabilities, called “Spectre” and “Meltdown” are found in computer hardware and operating systems (Windows, Android, Linux, MacOS, iOS, Chromebooks, etc.). All have or will be rolling out updates and patches to fix parts of the issue. Brown County devices are updated automatically. This post will help you secure your home computer(s) and mobile device(s).

Here is what you need to know:

•Be sure to update all of your devices (computers, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, cell phones) with the available updates offered by the operating systems.

•Keep in mind that the fixes may slow down your operating system by an estimated 5% to 30%.
•Microsoft updates might not be compatible with your home antivirus (see below).

•Install and use (if you don’t already) an antivirus software program. Keep the antivirus program updated as well.

•There will likely be a “BIOS update” required for your home computer at some point if it is affected.

If you want to learn more:
https://danielmiessler.com/blog/simple-explanation-difference-meltdown-spectre/

https://newsroom.intel.com/news-releases/intel-issues-updates-protect-systems-security-exploits/

Antivirus Information: Microsoft released patches for Windows 7 & Windows 10 for Spectre & Meltdown. Some antivirus programs may not be compatible (or “compliant”) with the patches. This link gives more detailed information on compatibility issues:

Brown County’s Department of Technology Services will update this post as more information becomes available.

As always, if you have any questions, please call the DoTS Help Desk at (920) 448-4030.

Brown County Department of Technology Services (DoTS) needs County staff with network access to review file and folder content on all of their network drives (file folders).

We need you to identify files that are no longer needed and can be safely deleted from network drives. This includes your private U drive and department based X and W drives and other drives.

The goal is to eliminate only unused, unnecessary and expired files. If you are unsure, suspect or know a file is needed do not delete it.

In advance, thank you!
